Bedfordshire Supported Housing has two shared supported properties in Milton Keynes. They each provide an opportunity for people with long-standing mental health problems to live safely and semi-independently in a stable environment. Residents are encouraged to define their own goals and are supported in the acquisition of skills to achieve them.

BSH Care for Supported Housing Residents
Our shared supported accommodation in Milton Keynes is available for adults requiring a medium or high level of community-based care. It’s also ideal for people needing a step-down from 24-hour residential care. BSH staff deliver care to residents according to their personalised care package. Our aim is to help residents acquire the skills they to develop their independence within the community.
Each property has Night Wardens who take responsibility for maintaining the safety of the property and the residents. There is also a 24 hour on-call service available for residents from a free phone number in each property.

A Typical Profile of Our Residents
Our residents will normally fit this profile:
- Male or female.
- Adult – over 18 years.
- Local to Milton Keynes.
- Already diagnosed with mental health problems.
- Community care plan in place.
- Secondary mental health services in place.
- Could be subject to CTO.
- History of challenging behaviour potentially.
- Past failure to engage with services.
Prior to all admissions a pre-admission assessment is carried out, including a risk assessment.

The social care support in place for supported accommodation residents is regulated by the CQC. It includes:
- Acquisition of employment-related skills.
- Acquisition of living skills – shopping, cooking, budgeting.
- Assessment and management of risk.
- Building meaningful relationships.
- Care and risk management plan, and programme of activities.
- Community integration – using public transport, leisure facilities.
- Management of psychosis or any other serious mental health problems.
- Medication management.
- Mental health monitoring
- Support for social activities.
- Support for the accessing of primary care.
Housing Related Support
A non-profit organisation provides our supported housing accommodation in Milton Keynes. They offer the following services for the properties:

- Assistance with benefits/universal income.
- Guidance on maintaining the garden and outside areas.
- Help and advice on cleaning, maintenance, repairs, decorating.
