Care & Support From BSH for Bedford

Our specialised supported housing in Bedford provides either specialist care, or enhanced care to residents:

• Specialised Care. Available for people requiring a medium level of care, or perhaps a step-down from 24-hour care. BSH carers deliver on a personalised care package for each person.
• Enhanced Care Support. We provide 24-hour care for people with complex needs, who require a more intensive care package, in order to live successfully in the community.

All our properties have Night Wardens who are available throughout the night. It is their responsibility to keep residents, and the property safe. There is also a 24-hour on-call service for specialised care residents.

Supported Housing Residents – Typical Profile

Prior to all admissions, a pre-admission assessment is carried out, including a risk assessment. A typical resident profile for our supported housing looks like this:

• Male or female
• Over 18 years.
• Local to Bedford.
• Mental health problems already diagnosed.
• Secondary mental health services in place.
• Community care plan in place.
• Could be subject to CTO.
• Possible history of challenging behaviour.
• Potentially known as someone who has failed to engage with services.

The social care support in place for supported accommodation residents is regulated by the CQC. It includes:

• Acquisition of skills – shopping, cooking, budgeting
• Care and risk management plan, and programme of activities.
• Symptoms of psychosis or any other serious mental health problems are managed.
• Medication management.

• Support for social activities.
• Community integration – using public transport, leisure facilities.
• Support for the accessing of primary care.
• Assessing and managing risk.
